Prioritise Well-being in the World Obsessed with Tomorrow
Last week, I had a heart-to-heart conversation with a couple of friends and it got me thinking about many things, especially the part we all are so much more in the future planning than living in the present moment. One of my friends, let's call her Sita, shared her ambitious career and financial goals for the next decade or so. She had everything mapped out - promotions, savings targets, retirement plans, her kid's education abroad and even starting her own business.
As I listened to my friends' detailed roadmaps, I couldn't help but think about their current situation most of them have vitamin deficiency, especially Vitamin D and they can't even walk for 30 minutes. They are planning for the future like covering all the edge case scenarios. I wondered whether they could walk after 15 years by seeing their current health trend.
It's ironic, isn't it? How can we build castles in the sky when the foundation beneath us – our health and relationships – is crumbling? We're so fixated on the destination that we forget to enjoy the journey.
But this conversation wasn't just about Sita; it made me reflect on a broader societal trend. How often do we find ourselves caught up in the rat race of life, striving for success and financial stability, while forgetting to nurture our relationships and care for our physical and mental health?
Reflecting on my own journey, I get it because once upon a time I am also used to being like them. I am glad my family, friends & health made me realise this irony that grounds me now.
So, here's my takeaway from these conversations: Enjoy the current moment, cherish our loved ones, prioritize our well-being above all else and save for the future but not like the end of the world. Because in the end, true success isn't just about the numbers in our bank accounts; it's about living a life filled with joy, fulfilment and meaningful connections.
