From Reactivity to Productivity: Mastering Your Daily Choices
Don't just start the day thinking you'll do any work that comes your way. If we do that, we might end up dealing with emails and talking to people who have problems and our day will go in the direction the world wants.

I'm not saying you shouldn't check emails or talk to people. What I am saying is "Begin each day with a purpose and reflect on yourself".
Start the day by asking yourself these questions:
1. How can I best use my time today?
2. Which choices will help us make progress on a project?
By thinking ahead, we can focus on what's most important. Otherwise, the day will pass by attending to things that aren't as crucial like attending to the baby that cries a lot. Once you've finished the most important tasks, you can allocate time to other things. This approach will help you become a strategic leader and foster visionary thinking.
